Duterte apologizes to Obama for ‘talkatise,’ forgives him too like all ‘ex-girlfriends’

PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte apologized to former US President Barack Obama for the “talkatese” he hurled against him in the past but at the same time said he has forgiven him like what he did to all his “ex-girlfriends.”

In a speech during his meeting with the Filipino community in Israel on Monday (Philippine time), Duterte said: “It would be appropriate to say at this time, Mr. Obama, you are now a civilian. I am sorry for uttering those words. Know it was just plain talkatese. We have learned our lessons very well,” Duterte said.

Duterte also said he has forgiven Obama for what he did.

“We understand each other, so if it is in your heart to forgive, you forgive. I have forgiven you,” the President said.

“I am forgiving you, just like what I did to all my ex-girlfriends when I was younger. I am forgiving you. I have forgiven them all,” he said.

Duterte called Obama, a staunch human rights advocate, an “s– of a b—- ” for criticizing his administration’s illegal drug war.

President Rodrigo Duterte

“I am a President of a sovereign state and we have long ceased to be a colony. I do not have any master except the Filipino people, nobody but nobody. You must be respectful. Do not just throw questions. You son of a w—-, I will swear at you in that forum,” he said in September 2016, referring to Obama.

“Who is he to confront me?” Duterte said at that time.

A month after, Duterte said Obama should “go to hell.”

It was two weeks ago when Duterte last called out Obama.

“Obama, I really insulted him. I said, ‘You’re a s– of a b—-, you can go to hell.’ You know, you insult me that I have human rights… there is a commission in the United Nations or you can choose the agency there. There is the security commission on everything. So, why would you insult my country?” Duterte said in a speech during the 12th founding anniversary of the Eastern Mindanao Command (EastMinCom) last August 23rd.

But while Duterte lambasted Obama, it was the opposite with successor Donald Trump.

Duterte and Trump even spoke on the phone in 2017, when the US President congratulated the former Davao City mayor for his anti-drug efforts.

“I just wanted to congratulate you because I am hearing of the unbelievable job on the drug problem. Many countries have the problem, we have a problem, but what a great job you are doing and I just wanted to call and tell you that,” Trump said.

A transcript of the conversation of the two leaders was posted on the website of The Washington Post. RALPH VILLANUEVA
