Palparan gets life for kidnapping UP students

Former Armed Forces Major General Jovito Palparan Jr. was found guilty of kidnapping and serious illegal detention in connection with the disappearance of two University of the Philippines students in 2006.

Judge Alexander Tamayo of the Malolos Regional Trial Court Branch 15 sentenced Palparan to life imprisonment for the kidnapping of UP students Karen Empeño and Sherlyn Cadapan.

Palparan’s co-accused, Lt. Col. Felipe Anotado and Sgt. Edgardo Osorio, were also found guilty and meted the same sentence.

The three were ordered to pay P100,000 in civil indemnity and P200,000 in moral damages.

Tamayo committed Palparan to the National Bilibid Prison.DIVINE DE LA CRUZ
