LOOK FORWARD – What are the expectations in 2019? Let’s look forward…

Local indies will continue to make waves on the international scene. While Brillante Mendoza and Lav Diaz remain the torch bearers in filmfests abroad, new indie names will emerge.

More and more hopefuls will join talent (singing, dancing, acting) contests initiated by GMA and ABS-CBN. The likes of Kim Chiu, Gerald Anderson, Alden Richards, Aljur Abrenica, Ejay Falcon, Maymay Entrata are products of those contests.

Ditto Keanna Reeves… but then, never mind.

As expected, Star Cinema and Viva will join forces to come up with megahits. Bankable are Vice Ganda, Anne Curtis, Piolo Pascual, Toni Gonzaga, KatNiel, Lizquen, AlDub.

More LGBT films will be produced this year, directed by Joel Lamangan, Mel Chionglo, Eric Quizon, Louie Ignacio, Joey Romero, Gina Alajar.

MORE VISIBLE – Expected to be more visible onscreen, big and small, are Richard Gutierrez, Angel Locsin, Sharon Cuneta, Robin Padilla, Pia Wurtzbach, Luis Manzano.

Onstage, expect Ricky Davao, Nonie Buencamino, Cris Villonco, Celeste Legaspi, Cherie Gil, John Arcilla, Rafa Siguion Reyna, to be more visible.

The songs of Ronnie Liang, Yeng Constantino, Ogie Alcasid, Regine Velasquez, Martin Nievera, Lani Misalucha, Arnel Pineda, Lea Salonga will be heard more often.

BOOKS, DOCUS – 2019 being the centennial of the Philippine cinema, books and docus on the event will come out.

One of them is the much-awaited book on the 100 greatest Filipino films, edited by Jo-Ann Maglipon and published by Summit. TBA is coming up with a docu.

Expected to make the list of greatest Filipino films are those directed by National Artists Ishmael Bernal, Lino Brocka, Eddie Romero, Manuel Conde, Gerry de Leon, Bert Avellana.

Also those helmed by Mike de Leon, Joel Lamangan, Marilou Diaz Abaya, Laurice Guillen, Mario O’Hara, Celso Ad. Castillo.
