2 Chinese tourists allegedly abducted in Pasay City, released; cops probing

MANILA, Philippines — Two Chinese tourists were allegedly kidnapped by fellow Chinese nationals in Pasay City early this week, police said Friday.
Investigation showed that Faquiang Guo, 46, and Fangmei Zhu, 50, were aboard a luxury van with three other companions on the way to Parañaque City when blocked by the vehicle of a group of armed men on Atang Dela Rama Street in Pasay City around 9 p.m. Monday and abducted, police also said.
According to a report from the Southern Police District (SPD), the suspects released Zhu in Las Piñas City around 1:30 p.m. on January 16, or two days after the abduction.
Zhu is now confined at Saint Luke’s Hospital in Taguig City for severe injuries he suffered during the incident, SPD said.
Guo was also released on Wednesday, about two hours after Zhu, in Taguig City. He is now in stable condition.
During inquiry by investigators, Guo claimed a group of Chinese nationals were responsible for the crime. He also said the suspects demanded ransom money for their liberty and mauled them while they were inside the vehicle of the suspects.
Pasay City Police chief Sr. Supt. Noel Flores told INQUIRER.net they are still investigating the incident and whether the suspects indeed received ransom for the release of the victims.
The SPD said it is coordinating with the Anti-Kidnapping Group of the Philippine National Police in Camp Crame for their investigation on the case. /kga
