FORMER president Fidel V. Ramos skipped this year’s EDSA People Power anniversary for health reasons.

Pastor “Boy” Saycon, member of the EDAS People Power Commission, confirmed on Monday that Ramos was supposed to attend this year’s commemoration of the revolution that resulted in the ouster of former president and late strongman Ferdinand Marcos.

“We are sad that because of the conditions of his body, he was not able to attend [the 33rd anniversary of Edsa People Power] and even his book launching last time in Club Filipino, he was not there as well,” Saycon told reporters at the sidelines of the EDSA People Power anniversary.

“We only ask that everyone must pray for him that will give him strength and we hope he will be here in the future Edsa anniversaries,” he said.

Civilian, religious and military reenact the “salubungan” every year with Ramos and former senator Juan Ponce Enrile, who was Marcos Defense minister, at that time, as the main protagonists of the four-day bloodless uprising. DEMPSEY REYES
