Pakistani with fake PH visa nabbed at NAIA

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has detained a Pakistani after presenting a fake Philippine visa at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
In a report to Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente, BI port operations chief Grifton Medina identified the Pakistani as 25-year-old Salman Khan, who was intercepted last Monday at the immigration departure area of the NAIA.
Khan, who is an overstaying alien, attempted to illegally leave the country before he was offloaded from his flight.
“The immigration officer became suspicious of his documents and his demeanor, so he was referred for secondary inspection to members of the BI’s travel control and enforcement unit (TCEU),” Medina said.
It was during the investigation that the Philippine visa on the Pakistani’s passport was confirmed to be counterfeit by the BI’s forensic document laboratory.
According to TCEU chief Erwin Ortañez, Khan’s passport also contained a fake BI departure stamp purportedly showing that he arrived in the country on November 18 last year, through a fake Philippine visa that was supposedly issued last October 10, 2018.
“Said arrival, however, was not in our travel database, which meant that he did not really arrive on that date,” Ortañez said.
It was later found that Khan’s last arrival in the country was in June 2015, making him an overstaying alien.
The Pakistani was brought to the BI detention facility in Bicutan, Taguig pending his prosecution for violation of the Philippine Immigration Act. (Jun Ramirez)
