MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) has deployed 77,536 officers nationwide to secure the public during summer.

This is part of the summer security plan dubbed as “Ligtas Sumvac 2019,” which the PNP officially launched on Tuesday.

“Sumvac” stands for “summer vacation.”

“Part of this is the preparation for the security for the approaching Holy Week and coming fiestas this May, including the Flores de Mayo,” Banac said, speaking in Filipino, at a press briefing held in Camp Crame. “This is on top of the security measures that we already have in place at the moment for the approaching May 13 elections.”

As many Filipinos are set to travel for trips or for vacation this summer in their provinces, Banac also reminded them to secure their homes before going of town.

He also said authorities would conduct stricter inspections if travelers belongings at transportation terminals.

Banac likewise warned against the use of party drugs during summer festivities, including concerts and events in beach resorts.

“Please avoid sampling drugs that have been mixed with drinks just to feel happy,” he said. “When you get caught, you will certainly be held responsible under the law.” /atm
