THERE’S a congressman aspiring to be mayor of Quezon City. His goal is to build a sports arena inside Quezon Memorial Circle!

What a gross misrepresentation of the hopes and wishes of Quezon City! What makes you think that the mini-forest – already a victim of hundreds of trees felled by the then sitting mayor and his minions — is ripe for conversion into a concrete jungle? Will the sight please you of hundreds more people trampling on what little grass is left and scattering their garbage at the foot of the few surviving trees whenever there’s a sports event?

Congressman Bingbong Crisologo, take your insane idea elsewhere, why not your hometown in Ilocos? If only for that hateful proposal of yours, may you not win the mayoral election. Leave us be. What a shame that as a duly elected congressman you have the nerve to aim to destroy what remains after a “karnabal,” parking lot, skating rink and other hideous “facilities” were built to accommodate someone’s appetite for STRUCTURES. Do not wipe out what’s left of our greenest space, a place insulated from the city’s noise, dirt and dust, a place for harried workers to relax and imagine a quieter, greener, bluer world with man and nature living together in harmony.

A sports arena, even if not used on a daily basis, invites noise, dirt and dust, people and their garbage dragged into what should be a protected area of a ring of trees. No, a stadium within the Circle is going to be as criminal as homicide and murder; it has no place in today’s ecologically conscious environment; its very concept is obscene and should be shot down with a million arrows by the Quezon family. The Circle was designed to honor the memory of President Quezon, not to be the site of chaos and traffic jams typical of athletic events.

You misrepresent your city, Congressman.

Mayor Herbert Bautista has been missing in action, surfacing days ago just to raise Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte’s right arm to proclaim her the candidate to succeed him. Surveys show the VM is running virtually unopposed. I take that to mean that most of QC think you’re not going to be anywhere near city hall, not in your wildest dreams.
