MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine National Police (PNP) is conducting a parallel investigation on the abduction of businessman Allan Fajardo, PNP chief Gen. Oscar Albayalde said on Friday.

“Yun palang nag-lead ng investigation is the NBI [National Bureau of Investigation] although ‘yung PNP is conducting its parallel investigation here,” Albayalde said in a press briefing at Camp Vicente Lim in Laguna.

Fajardo, who is a former aide of slain Tanauan City, Batangas Mayor Antonio Halili, was abducted by around 30 heavily armed men at the Seda Hotel at Nuvali in Santa Rosa City.

Albayalde also confirmed that the investigation into Fajardo’s abduction is still ongoing.

“I think as per report of the regional director, that is still being investigated. Hindi pa tapos yung investigation diyan,” Albayalde said.

Fajardo’s lawyer, Ferdinand Topacio, previously asked the PNP to explain its silence and inaction on the case.

An NBI official, who asked not to be named, alleged that police or military personnel may be involved in the abduction. /gsg
