ASIDE from the expected influx of buses plying along EDSA for the Lenten break, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Monday warned motorists of heavy traffic with the suspension of the number coding scheme from Holy Wednesday to Easter Monday.

“This Holy Week, the number coding scheme is suspended from Holy Wednesday to Easter Monday,” MMDA Chairman Danilo Lim said.

The number coding scheme is automatically lifted on Maundy Thursday, April 18; and Good Friday, April 19.

The suspensions on Holy Wednesday and Easter Monday were to allow the unhampered travel of motorists and commuters to the provinces and back to Metro Manila, said MMDA Chairman Danilo Lim.

The number coding scheme will resume on Tuesday, April 23.

MMDA Command Center chief Edison “Bong Nebrija” said that the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the MMDA would deploy hundreds of buses after Metro Rail Transit (MRT)-3 management announced that it would shut down its operations starting today, Holy Monday, April 15, until Easter Sunday, April 21.

“We will be providing 100 buses; 50 will be stationed at North Avenue and 50 will be stationed at Pasay, Taft which is the end station of MRT-3,” Nebrija said.

Buses will load and unload passengers at MRT-3 stations from North Avenue to Taft Avenue from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m.

These buses will operate from April 15 to 17 and April 20 to 21 and the fare will be the same as that of the MRT-3, the DOTr said. NEIL JAYSON N. SERVALLOS
