Arroyo visits victims, families in quake-hit Pampanga

SPEAKER Gloria Macapagal Arroyo condoled with the families of the victims of the earthquake that hit Luzon, including Pampanga, on Monday.

Among the victims visited by the Pampanga lawmaker early on Wednesday were Olivia and Niela Paule in Lubao; Adrian Ocampo, Sophia Arbis, and Jivulyn Vera, Gerome Enriquez in Porac; and Manily, Jacob and Hailee dela Cruz in Guagua, Pampanga.

Arroyo also extended financial and burial assistance to the families before heading to the four-storey Chuzon Supermarket and Porac Church which were among the heavily damaged structures.

Arroyo also extended financial and medical assistance to those injured, her camp said.

Pampanga was hit hardest after a magnitude 6.1 quake hit Luzon Island on Monday afternoon. Authorities recorded at least 16 casualties as of Tuesday afternoon, with fifteen coming from the province. The epicenter of the quake was in Castillejos, Zambales.

Five came from the Chuzon Supermarket and 10 were from the other villages of Porac and Lubao towns in Angeles City, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) confirmed.

Rescue operations are still ongoing.
