THE Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) suspended the dry-run of the provincial bus ban on EDSA set for today, Monday.

MMDA General Manager Jose Arturo Garcia Jr. said the implementation of the ban would depend on the results of a meeting with the Department of Transportation (DoT)and attached agency Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB).

To be discussed is whether or not franchise routes of provincial buses shoild be cut and the route of city buses extended to ease the travel of commuters.

“We will continue with the dry run once the guidelines and implementing rules have been ironed out by the three agencies involved,” Garcia said.

With a temporary restraining order pending before the Supreme Court, Garcia said the agency did not want the policy to be politicized because of the coming elections.

Strict enforcement of the no loading and unloading along major thoroughfares for provincial buses will remain.

The provincial bus ban is container in MMC Regulation 19-002 revoking / canceling the business permits of all provincial bus terminals along EDSA as approved by the Metro Manila mayors last March.
