MAYORAL candidate Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso and reelectionist Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna secured an endorsement from the Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC), a few days before the midterm elections, the former Manila vice mayor said in a text message.

Domagoso expressed his gratitude to the religious group, which has an estimated two million voters, for backing his mayoral bid, and vowed to uplift the lives of Manila residents once elected.

They are both running under the banner of Asenso Manileño political party.

Nagpapasalamat po tayo kay kapatid na Eduardo V. Manalo at sa mga kapatid sa Iglesia sa pagtitiwala nila sa atin,” Domagoso said.

(We express our thanks to Brother Eduardo V. Manalo, [INC executive minister,] and Iglesia members for their trust.)

“Kung kami man po ay mahalal, makakaasa po ang bawat Manileno na pagbubutihin namin ni Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna ang aming trabaho para maiangat ang antas ng pamumuhay sa Lungsod ng Maynila,” he said.

(If we get elected, every Manileño can expect that Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna and I will do our best to uplift the way of life in the City of Manila.)

Moreno has previously said he would push for the creation of a student allowance program, under which public school students would receive P1,000 monthly financial assistance.

He also wants to build a new Ospital ng Maynila and city hall under his 10-year infrastructure plan aimed to boost the country’s capital’s tourism, healthcare, and job sectors.

Moreno is up against incumbent Joseph Estrada and former mayor Alfredo Lim.

He first held the vice mayoral post in 2007 with Lim, and he decided to seek reelection alongside Estrada in 2013 after his political relations with Lim soured. CATHERINE A. MODESTO
