PHILIPPINE National Police (PNP) Chief Oscar Albayalde announced on Tuesday that 11 suspects in the killing of four policemen in Ayungo, Negros Oriental were identified.

“Yes, we have identified kung di ako magkamali ang report ng RD (regional director) doon at least 11 of them and some are John Does (Yes, we have identified them. If I’m right, the report of RD (regional director) there, at least 11 of them and some are John Does),” he said in a press briefing.

The PNP chief said that cases would be filed against the suspects who were allegedly members of the New People’s Army.

The slain policemen were identified as Cpl. Relebert Beronio, Patrolmen Raffy Callo, Roel Cabellon and Marquino de Leon – intelligence personnel from the 704th Mobile Force Company Regional Mobile Force Battalion of the Philippine National Police (PNP) in Central Visayas.

Police Brig. Gen. Debold Sinas of PRO 7 reported that the four policemen were “dragged, hogtied, buttstroked and ganged up by about 30-40 men with one officer’s rib broken before they were shot kneeling down, resembling a summary execution, more than an ambush.”

President Rodrigo Duterte conferred the Order of Lapu-Lapu Rank of Kalasag on the four policemen during his visit to their wake.

The President also offered a P1-M reward for information that would lead to the arrest of the attackers. DARWIN C. PESCO
