Pacquiao’s win scared Floyd, says Roach

LAKE TAHOE, Nevada – It doesn’t look as if Floyd Mayweather wants to give Manny Pacquiao a rematch, according to the Filipino star’s Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach.
Speaking to FOX Sports, which broadcast Pacquiao’s sensational win at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas last July 20, Roach feels the 42-year-old Mayweather could have felt fear.
Mayweather was at ringside when Pacquiao floored Thurman in the first round en route to a split decision victory that made him a hot commodity anew.
“He (Mayweather) didn’t stay at the fight after the decision was announced and call anyone out like he usually does,” said Roach, who began training Pacquiao in mid-2001.
Mayweather headed out of the venue right after the final bell alongside his friends and didn’t even bother to stay to hear the official announcement of the result by Jimmy Lennon.
“I think Manny scared him a little with that performance,” added Roach.
In May 2015, Mayweather beat Pacquiao on points with the latter fighting with an injured shoulder, something that prevented him from being at his best.
Roach said a healthy Pacquiao would pose danger to Mayweather, who been quite inactive the past two years.
Last time he fought a competitive boxing match was against Andre Berto in September of 2015.
In August 2017, Mayweather stopped MMA icon Conor McGregor and on New Year’s Eve of 2018, Mayweather figured in a farcical bout with Japanese Teruo Nakusawa in Tokyo.
