Climate change activists plan to ‘snake march’ through downtown Vancouver during rush hour on Friday, in protest of government inaction on the climate crisis.

Members of the Vancouver chapter of Extinction Rebellion will gather at the intersection of West Georgia and Hamilton streets on Friday at 4:30 p.m. before marching into the streets and winding their way through downtown Vancouver.

“There is no planned route – it will be up to the rebels marching on the day to decide where we are going,” reads a Facebook event posting for the event.

Earlier this month, Extinction Rebellion activists took over the Burrard Street Bridge, setting up in the middle of the span for several hours as part of an internationally coordinated bridge shutdown event. At its peak, the Vancouver #BridgeOut event saw about 200 people gathered on the bridge.

Vancouver police said 10 individuals were arrested at the end of the night after refusing to leave when ordered by officers.

Extinction Rebellion is a U.K.-based non-violent group that has launched chapters around the world. The group wants politicians to take urgent action on climate change and disappearing wildlife and for governments to reduce carbon emissions to zero by 2025, and are making their concerns heard through peaceful, non-violent civil disobedience.
