Alert signals may be raised as ‘Perla’ nears extreme Northern Luzon

ALERT signals may be raised in parts of extreme Northern Luzon on Friday as tropical depression “Perla” approaches the country’s land mass.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) last spotted Perla at 860 kilometers east of Tuguegarao City Cagayan. It maintained its strength, carrying maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of 55 kph. It, however, slowed down to 10 kph and was moving in west-northwest.
Pagasa weather specialist Chris Perez said Perla was expected to make land fall around Aparri, Cagayan on Sunday but was less likely to intensify.
Perla has no direct affect on any part of the country. It is, however, expected to bring scattered rains and thunderstorms over Batanes, Cagayan, including Babuyan Islands and Apayao on Saturday or Sunday.
Gale warning was raised over the northern and western seaboards of Northern Luzon. Alert is up in the eastern seaboards of Luzon where moderate to rough sea conditions are expected. Small fishing vessels are advised not to venture out into these seas. DIVINA NOVA JOY DELA CRUZ
