A man found dead in a business in Richmond on Friday evening has been identified by homicide detectives as 58-year-old Stephen Chong.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team says that at around 5:30 p.m. Richmond Mounties were called to the 8200-block of Granville Avenue after Chong was found dead inside his business in the 8200-block of Granville Avenue.

IHIT spokesman Sgt. Frank Jang says Chong was a notary public with no criminal record.

Richmond Mounties deemed the death to be suspicious, and IHIT was called in to take over the case. IHIT will investigate with the Richmond RCMP, the Integrated Forensic Identification Services and the B.C. Coroners Service.

Jang says Chong’s death doesn’t appear to be a random act. Police haven’t said whether they have a suspect, nor have they identified a possible motive.

Anyone with information is asked to call the IHIT information line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email to ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca, or contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477.)
