Batten down the hatches, it’s going to be blustery tonight and Friday in many parts of B.C., including Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley.

Environment Canada has posted a special weather statement for much of the Interior and South Coast, including Metro Vancouver, the Gulf Islands, and the Fraser Valley, saying wind gusts up to 80 km/h are expected in some parts of the region Thursday night and into Friday.

Also under the wind alert are the Chilcotin, Fraser Canyon, South Thompson, Shuswap, Okanagan, Nicola, and North Thompson regions.

A cold front over the North Coast will move south Wednesday night, the agency said, and cross the Inner South Coast early Friday morning.

Southerly winds of up to 60 km/h are expected, with some gusts reaching 80 km/h over western sections of Metro Vancouver near the Strait of Georgia.

Winds are expected to ease early Friday evening.

It's going to be windy tomorrow! Wind gusts of up to 80 km/h are possible for Metro Vancouver & the Interior. Special Weather Statements are in effect: https://t.co/hQmPatSZLk #BCStorm @bchydro @FortisBC @TransLink @BCFerries
