BACOLOD CITY– A total of 49 Grade 1 students of Ma-ao Elementary School, and their parents have been hospitalized for alleged food poisoning.

A report by the Bago City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office said the victims ate spaghetti prepared by a local catering service for their Christmas party.

After eating, students and some parents reportedly complained of stomach ache and nausea.

The victims were initially rushed to the Barangay Ma-ao Clinic, but were later transferred to the Bago City District Hospital.

As of Thursday, 20 students remained at the hospital and were under observation.

In a separate radio interview with Aksyon Radyo-Bacolod, one of the victims, 57-year-old Tessie Cubos, said she ate the spaghetti after her grandchild refused to eat it.

Cubos claimed that she only ate three spoonfulls of the food, which she described as “sour”.

At first, Cubos said she ignored the taste but started to experience stomach pains minutes later and vomitting.

The Bago City Health Office is investigating the catering service, which it did not identify.
