Brush up your beauty game in 2020 with a few new tools of the trade.

Whether you’re a casual cosmetics user, or a full on makeup artist-level pro, there’s likely always room for a brush or two (OK, or three) in your existing makeup kit.

From complete collections offering all the brushes needed to create a Kardashian-approved smokey eye, to a do-it-all brush that’s so chic you’ll likely want to Instagram it in addition to adding it to your regular makeup rotation — here are three makeup brushes and sets that caught our eye this week.

Celebrity-approved selection

Makeup fans received a stylish surprise after Christmas when celebrity makeup artist Mario Dedivanovic — a longtime favourite of the Kardashian clan — released a limited-edition brush collection with beauty retailer Sephora. Part of the company’s in-house collection, the Makeup by Mario x Sephora release featured several comprehensive sets, including a full-face collection of brushes that sold out almost immediately.

Luckily, beauty fans who are late to the purchasing party can still check out the aptly named Eye Brush Set, which includes the “master” makeup artist’s favourite tools for creating an alluring eye look including: a blending brush; detail brush; eyeshadow brush; brow brush; smudge brush; as well as a brush pouch to store them all in.

Skin saviour

Good skin is in — and one of the best ways to achieve a flawless complexion (aside from diligent skincare practices and consistent use of sunscreen, of course) is with a skin-smoothing foundation brush. In our opinion, a perfect face brush contains densely packed, synthetic bristles for flawless blending and buffing — which is exactly what’s on offer with this Retractable Foundation Brush from CHANEL. The fact that this shiny black brush also retracts down to about the size of a large lipstick case for easy packing and on-the-go touch-ups, just makes it even more divine.

Chic stripes

Hudson’s Bay gets into the beauty game with the Les Essentiels by Hudson’s Bay collection. The range, which features a curated selection of beauty and skincare finds such as under-eye masks and face serum — all packaged with the iconic HBC Stripes motif — includes this Perfect 10 Brush Set. The dual-ended brushes boast options for blush, powder, contouring, highlighting, eyebrows, eyeshadow and more. Plus, the synthetic brushes are cruelty-free and easy to clean (a little gentle cleanser, hot water and some swirling will have them looking good as new).
