Family Day 2020 in Vancouver: What's open and closed

Some people celebrate with their family, while others celebrate with their chosen family. Perhaps it’s just another day off for you or maybe you’re among those who keep the city moving.

No matter how you choose to spend your Family Day, here’s a list of what’s open, closed or operating on a holiday schedule on Monday, Feb. 17, 2020 in Vancouver.

While smaller businesses will likely be closed or running shortened hours, Pacific Centre and Richmond Centre will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Family Day. Meanwhile, Metrotown will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Oakridge Centre will be open fro 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Two Real Canadian Superstore locations in Vancouver (3185 Grandview Hwy. and 350 SE Marine Dr.) will be open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Save-On-Foods locations will vary, but the Cambie location is typically open during holidays from 6 a.m. to midnight, the King Edward location is open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., the Main Street location from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., and the Grandview location from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Pharmacy hours, however, will vary. Check specific stores for more hours.

Some B.C. Liquor Stores will remain open from 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. but it will vary by location. Check the BCL website for your closest location. Private liquor stores, however, are more likely to be open but be sure to check before heading over.

All Vancouver Public Library branches will be closed for Family Day with the exception of its Carnegie branch, which does not close for any holidays.

The Vancouver Art Gallery is generally open on Family Day and in the past has offered special family-friendly activities on that day. Check the VAG website closer to Feb. 17 for more information.

Science World will open at 9:30 a.m. on Family Day, as it does for most stat holidays, and will close at 6 p.m.

The Museum of Vancouver is open on Family Day and will be offering free admission all day. The Vancouver Lookout will operate winter hours from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. but has not yet announced specific operating hours for Family Day.

The Vancouver Aquarium in Stanley Park will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is open 365 days a year.

Hours for pools, fitness centres and community centres vary on statutory holidays so be sure to check online before heading out. You can check hours for specific centres here.

The Robson Square skating rink is open for the winter until Feb. 29, 2020. Hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Skating is free but skate rentals are $5 a pair, cash only.

TransLink’s buses, SkyTrains and SeaBuses typically operate Sunday/holiday schedules on statutory holidays. Specific holiday hours have not yet been announced but we will update this guide when they are posted.

Weekend fares are generally in effect for major holidays; riders need only pay for a one-zone fare to travel across all zones and systems on holidays.
