A B.C. man has been banned from teaching for the next 15 years after giving alcohol to a student and having sex with her just two months after she had graduated from his class.

The consent resolution agreement was posted Tuesday by the B.C. Commissioner for Teacher Regulation without any identifying information about the teacher or the school to protect the student’s identity.

According to the deal, the teacher held a teacher certificate beginning in September 2016 and had been teaching at a high school somewhere in B.C.

In 2016 and ’17 the teacher engaged in inappropriate physical contact with students, including touching their hands, shoulders, elbows, backs, knees and legs.

The agreement detailed how, in August 2017, the teacher supplied liquor to and had sex with a former student who had graduated just two months earlier. The student had been taught by the teacher in her Grade 12 year. When the relationship was investigated by the school district, the teacher was initially dishonest. After the investigation, the teacher was first suspended before later being fired in January 2019 and reported to the commissioner.

In the consent resolution deal, the teacher agreed not to seek a new teaching certificate for the next 15 years, whether for a public or private school.
