MANILA — The Metropolitan Theater (MET) Gallery opened its Museums and Galleries Month (MGM) celebration with “A Meditation on Systems,” an exhibition featuring the works of artists Dexter Lira, Marius Black and Tad Pagaduan.

The exhibition opened last October 1, with LIFE Inc. president Arnel Guadalupe Caranto delivering the welcome remarks, where he highlighted the role of art and culture in bringing people together and promoting a more inclusive community.

“Art and culture is the soul of every nation,” he said.

The opening also featured messages from Wilcon Builders Inc. president and CEO Lorraine Belo-Cincochan and playwright Frank G. Rivera, who paid tribute to Lira’s work.

Yolanda Araneta Sebastian Lira, dean of Universidad de Manila, also expressed appreciation for the partnership among the university, MET and Dexter Lira.

“A Meditation on Systems” explores relationships, patterns and the connections between people and intangible aspects of human experience. The works examine how systems exist within communities and shape the material culture reflected in everyday life.

In an interview, Lira said individuals ultimately have a role in determining how systems work for them, adding that recognizing this agency is an important step toward creating more responsive and inclusive structures.

The exhibition is part of Museums and Galleries Month, an annual celebration held every October to highlight museums and galleries and their role in preserving art, culture, history and heritage.
