‘Glee’ set to make a comeback, Lea Michele reportedly returning as Rachel Berry
Musical comedy-drama series Glee is set to make a comeback more than a decade after its final episode aired.
According to a report by Variety, Disney+ and Hulu have ordered a reboot of the hit series, which will be produced by 20th Television.
The publication also reported that Lea Michele is set to reprise her role as Rachel Berry, whom she portrayed throughout the show’s six-season run.
“She’s in,” a source confirmed to Variety.
Meanwhile, Heather Morris, who played Brittany S. Pierce in the original series, seemingly hinted at her return to the show.
On Instagram, she wrote: “Yes ladies and gentlemen of women, rumors are true. Brittany S Pierce was in fact lost in the sewers for all these years. But I’m here to inform you that she is alive and well… And back for more #Glee.”
The original Glee series debuted with a pilot episode on May 19, 2009, before officially beginning its regular first-season run on September 9 of the same year. The show concluded after six seasons on March 20, 2015.
Set at the fictional William McKinley High School in Lima, Ohio, the series followed the members of a high school glee club as they navigated personal challenges, relationships, and their passion for music and performing.
The original cast included Lea, Cory Monteith, Kevin McHale, Chris Colfer, Amber Riley, Matthew Morrison, Jane Lynch, and Naya Rivera, among others.
As of this writing, an official premiere date for the reboot has yet to be announced.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight in September, Ryan Murphy revealed that he and his fellow Glee co-creators had completed a script for the show’s reboot.
“So, we have a script. Brad [Falchuk], Ian [Brennan] and I, who wrote all the first two seasons, have written something. I’ve been in touch with around 10 of the original cast members. It’s very sweet, and they all had a lot of questions, but they all were very enthusiastic about the idea,” he shared.
