OWWA, TESDA launch skills training academy for OFWs
OWWA, TESDA launch skills training academy for OFWs. Jervis Manahan, ABS-CBN NewsMANILA— The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration has partnered with TESDA and several private entities to launch the OWWA Kasanayan at Kabuhayan Center (OKKC), an academy geared to train and upskill OFWs.
This is a flagship initiative where OFWs, mostly those repatriated, may train or upskill for future employment or business.
The OKKC serves as a central hub for linking competency-based training to sustainable livelihood opportunities.
The main branch of the academy in Intramuros, Manila has been unveiled, offering initial courses in barista training and language courses.
“Aside from quality, world class training provided by TESDA, ang OWWA through the Alagang OWWA program will provide resources, allowances, importante ang employment facilitation,” said OWWA Administrator PY Caunan.
“Nagbibigay tayo ng pangunang capital para makapagsimula ng maliit na negosyo kung saan matutunan pa nila magpatakbo ng ganitong klase ng negosyo,” she added.
Caunan said they got reintegration data from the OFWs repatriated earlier this year due to the Middle East conflict.
“Marami sa kanila gusto pa rin magtrabaho, marami gusto magtrabaho sa ibang industriya,” she added.
Registration for the available courses will be posted through the OWWA and TESDA websites and social media pages.
“Pwede magwalk-in sa Intramuros at regional offices for endorsement, pero ang mas madali ay abangan sa TESDA Manila or OWWA ang registration link para sa iba’t ibang kurso,” Caunan said.
Even non-OWWA members may avail of the free trainings.
