Angie Mead King champions sustainability with bamboo farming: ‘Going green is the new sexy’

Angie Mead King proudly showed how her bamboo-growing initiative has transformed a once-open plot of land into a successful plantation, reflecting her efforts to promote environmental sustainability and support renewable industries.

In a recent social media post, the entrepreneur and car enthusiast gave followers a glimpse of one of her bamboo farms, showing how the property was gradually filled with thousands of bamboo plants.

“No trees were harmed in making this video 💚🥰 instead 20,000 bamboo poles were planted to reforest this subdivision,” she wrote, noting in the video that the project did not involve cutting down existing trees, but instead focused on planting more greenery.

For Angie, the initiative goes beyond creating a beautiful landscape. She sees bamboo planting as a sustainable way to help the environment while supporting industries that can make use of a renewable resource.

“Instead of deforestation (AI data centers, mining, illegal logging) why not plant bamboo as a sustainable and economic way to boost local industries without depleting natural resources and destroying the environment.”

The entrepreneur also shared how growing bamboo has changed the experience of being on the property. With the bamboo poles providing shade, she can now ride her bike around the farm while enjoying cooler surroundings and fresh air.

She added: “There is a way to have growth, be Green, and prosper simultaneously. Also studies show that Bamboo captures high amounts of carbon and is a growing industry for export!”

From the initial 20,000 poles planted, Angie revealed that the farm has now grown to more than 400,000 bamboo culms, showing how much the project has developed over the years.

“Going green is the new sexy,” she wrote in the video.

In a separate post, Angie reflected on how the plantation came together.

“Just a few years ago, this was open fields, once a farm for rice which was not conducive to grow bamboo, but with a hard head and heavy machinery to divert waters I’m so happy as today it’s developing to become another renewable and sustainable carbon capture plantation.”

While she is pleased with the progress, Angie admitted that the bamboo has grown a “little slower and smaller than expected.” She also expressed hope that the projected Super El Niño would not affect the plantation’s development.

With the plantation continuing to grow, Angie is now looking ahead to finding ways to make use of the resource she has cultivated.

“Now I definitely need to start planning what to do with all this precious resources!” she said.

Her initiative drew praise from netizens who commended her efforts to promote environmental awareness.

“This is sooooo Earth inspiring ❤️ Let’s continue to be the beacon of hope and light 🙌👏,” one netizen wrote.

“Absolutely beautiful 😍😍😍 May there be more people like you, choosing trees, the environment, people, over money,” another commented.

“May every bamboo you plant take root in joy, and may your beautiful, pure heart continue to flourish with all the life you nurture. 🌱💚,” another added.

Several celebrities including Karen Davila, Barbie Imperial, and Iza Calzado also lauded the entrepreneur for the initiative.

Angie’s bamboo-growing journey dates back to 2021 according to a YouTube vlog she posted in 2022. At the time, she shared that she had been working on establishing a bamboo farm and is going through the necessary government documents and requirements.

By 2024, she had provided another update on the project, explaining that her goal was to develop a sustainable plantation that could help capture carbon dioxide, especially that she is a professional motorsport driver as well, while providing a renewable source of material.

She also envisioned turning the harvested bamboo into useful and sustainable products.
