Sofronio Vasquez gets help from Michael Bublé in curating concert setlist
MANILA — Sofronio Vasquez, The Voice US Season 26 champion, got a little help from his coach Michael Bublé in curating his setlist for this first Manila solo concert this weekend.
Entitled “Sofronio Vasquez: Live in Concert,” the Voice champion and former Tawag ng Tanghalan contestant had tickets to his show sold out in two weeks-time.
Speaking to ABS-CBN News during his media conference, Sofronio was humbled by the news.
“Masarap sa pakiramdam kasi nag-announce kami ng ticket selling, and then like a week or after, kalahati na agad. Then a month before the concert, nasold out na siya. I’m proud na nagawa ko yun, even the smallest effort na ginawa ko.”
“Ang laking tulong din na I’m being managed by ABS-CBN kasi yung reach, even just sharing of the posters”, he added.
He also understands the difficulties in convincing people to buy pricey tickets.
“Sobrang hirap ng buhay ngayon, sobrang hirap i-pressure yung mga tao na magbayad ng ganito so I am just lucky na sa November 7 mapupuno ko ang isang venue.”
In return, Sofronio promises to give it his all.
“Maririnig nila, and maiintindihan nila why I wanted this concert. Kasi this is a curation of gusto kong mangyari, gusto kong mangyari sa music. It’s one show na from my heart, my direction and my vision.”
When it comes to his setlist, his coach Michael Bublé helped him pick out the best songs.
“Voluntarily, meron siyang ginawa na contribution na curation of the songs, specific genres. Tinulungan niya ako how to pick the right song, how to pick the ballads kung ano yung opening, ano yung mid-song.”
But did he or Michael ever thought of having a special number together for this concert?
Sofronio replied, “I cannot pressure him. Unang-una logistically, mahirap yun for him. Also, I’m saving it that part when he comes to the Philippines, or we’re having a show together, gusto ko yung malaki talaga. Para it would be worth it for his part, and worth it on my part.”
Apart from Bublé, Sofronio got some hometown help from our local legends like Martin Nievera who wrote his script for the show; he has a special number with our National Artist for Music Ryan Cayabyab; his guests include Bituin Escalante, Jed Madela, Jona and the Chief of OPM, Ogie Alcasid.
