Nursing student found dead in vacant lot in Oriental Mindoro

ORIENTAL MINDORO (UPDATED) — A 20-year-old female  nursing student was found dead in a vacant lot along a poorly-lit section of a barangay road in Barangay Sapul, Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro, early Saturday.

Oriental Mindoro Police provincial director Police Col. Efraim Camara said the victim was found at around 1:15 a.m. with a visible wound to her chest and her lower garments pulled down, raising the possibility that she had been sexually assaulted.

“Waiting pa rin po sa final results ng forensic team,” Camara said.

(We are still waiting for the final results from the forensic team.)

The victim was identified by her family as a resident Barangay Labonan in Bongabong, Oriental Mindoro. She was a third-year nursing student at St. Anthony College.

The school has condemned the killing and is calling for justice for the student.

REWARD OFFERED

Bongabong Mayor Mike Malaluan has meanwhile offered a P100,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the suspect in the killing

“Sobrang karumaldumal po. Hindi ko po kayang palampasin na hindi mabigyan ng hustisya yung pamilya,” Malaluan said.

(This is too heinous a crime. I cannot let this pass without her family getting justice.)

The Calapan City Police Station has formed a special investigation team to focus on the case.

Although there are no CCTV cameras at the crime scene, authorities are reviewing footage from nearby areas to determine the victim’s movements before her death and possibly identify the suspects who may have passed through the area.
