Gwyneth Paltrow cooks tortang talong and makes banana ketchup from scratch

Hollywood actress Gwyneth Paltrow is giving another Filipino favorite a place in her kitchen, this time preparing tortang talong with a few personal touches.

In a video shared on Instagram, Gwyneth showed how she made the classic Filipino dish. She followed the local way of grilling the eggplant directly over flame before peeling it, dipping it in beaten eggs, and frying it until cooked.

She put her own spin on the dish by adding garlicky turkey crumbles as a topping. To complete the meal, Gwyneth also made banana ketchup from scratch, serving the sweet and tangy condiment alongside the tortang talong.

“Tortang Talong with garlicky turkey crumbles and banana ketchup. A Filipino breakfast classic,” she captioned the post.

Her take on the familiar Filipino dish caught the attention of local personalities, who welcomed the actress’S effort to prepare the meal while retaining its Filipino identity.

Chef and content creator Erwan Heussaff appreciated how Gwyneth presented the dish, commenting, “Thank you for not calling it an Eggplant Omelette 🙂.”

Content creator Nurse John, meanwhile, expressed his excitement at the idea of cooking with the actress: “GWYNETHHHH GIRLLLLL!!! We need to cook tortang talong togetherrr!!!” he wrote.

“Tortang talong! Fave!!🤤,” Cristine Reyes wrote.

“Yaaaay!!! Proud Pinay here!” Donita Rose added.

Gwyneth’s latest cooking video is part of her social media series, #boyfriendbreakfast, in which she prepares different dishes for her husband, television producer and writer Brad Falchuk.

The actress previously shared how the series started in a 2021 article published on her lifestyle platform, Goop.com.

“They started when we were dating, both divorced parents,” she wrote. “Sometimes neither of us had our kids on Saturday mornings, so it became a thing, and both of us still relish the energy it brings to our relationship. Even when I’m not eating (I like intermittent fasting some mornings), I really enjoy the act of cooking—and cooking specifically for him.”

For Gwyneth, preparing food for her partner is more than simply putting a meal on the table. She described cooking as part of her love language and referred to the breakfast tradition as a “sacred tradition.”

She also addressed the idea that a woman cooking for a man could be considered anti-feminist, explaining that she sees the gesture as a way of showing care rather than an obligation.

“For me, it’s not anti-feminist to serve; it’s an act of service that’s about seeing the other person and understanding their needs,” she wrote. “It brings a particular energy and intimacy to a relationship.”

Her interest in Filipino breakfast dishes is not entirely new. In 2025, the actress also shared a video of herself preparing pork tocino, another familiar Filipino breakfast favorite.

Gwyneth married Brad in 2018. She has two children, Apple and Moses, with her former husband, Coldplay frontman Chris Martin.
