K-pop boy band Treasure released Monday its new single “Shock,” continuing its shift toward hip-hop-heavy tracks with a high-energy sound.

The song is “an electronic hip-hop track driven by explosive energy and an addictive rhythm,” according to a track description on label YG Entertainment’s website.

“Its direct phrasing and fast-paced sound create a dynamic listening experience, while the energy that builds throughout the track highlights Treasure’s bold confidence and unmistakable presence,” it added.

The single comes more than five months after the group released its extended play (EP) “NEW WAV,” which marked a shift toward a harder-hitting hip-hop sound with its lead single “If I.” Before this, Treasure had largely favored bright, feel-good dance tracks such as “Paradise” and “Yellow.”

Only nine of the 10 member group — Choi Hyunsuk, Jihoon, Yoshi, Yoon Jaehyuk, Asahi, Doyoung, Haruto, Park Jeongwoo and So Junghwan — participated in the latest comeback as Junkyu remained on hiatus due to health reasons.

The YG Entertainment-managed group, which debuted in 2020, last visited the Philippines in April for a concert at the Mall of Asia Arena as part of its “Pulse On” tour.
